Please refer to this page for frequently asked questions.

  1. What does NOS stand for? NOS is an abbreviation for New Old Stock. What this means is that our part  is a new genuine original manufacturer (GM), although no longer available. This does NOT mean that the part is a perfect show piece. These parts were made for a "production car". Fit and function will be like a new part because they are. Some shelf wear can exist, these parts are 30 plus years old, although we do try to describe any imperfections as needed.

  2. What does NORS stand for? NORS is an abbreviation for New Old Replacement Stock. What this means is that the part is a new "replacement part", such as NAPA, Fram, or Champion. More than likely from the same era of time. Some of these parts are actually manufactured from the same company as the original GM NOS part. These parts will function properly, but sometimes fit may not be as good as NOS, and markings may be different. Sometimes these parts are a "will fit", slight differences may be evident, to enable the part to be used on more applications, than the original GM part.

  3. What is shelf wear? Shelf wear is when normal movement in the box, or just age has produced some wear.

  4. What does "take off" mean? Take off is a term we use, when the dealer mounted the part, and then removed it. This usually happened because of a misdiagnosis of a problem, or possibly the part came in on a new vehicle with a minor flaw, and the dealer put it on the shelf.

  5. What does F/S mean? Full-size, such as Bonneville, Impala, 98, Lesabre, etc.

  6. What is the Automobile Archives guarantee? Basically, if you are not happy for ANY reason, with an item we supply to you, we will issue a refund of the purchase price of the part, once returned to Automobile Archives. Please note that parts which have been placed on a vehicle will not be accepted for a refund.

  7. How do I return an item? Contact our main office, get a return authorization number, and return the part to our warehouse address. A check, credit towards another purchase, or a refund to your credit card will be issued. Please note, No refunds will be accepted COD, or in a manner which requires a signature, as we are not available to sign for the item. The package will be returned to you if you send in either of these methods. Please state why the item is being returned.

  8. Domestic Shipment of Orders:  Most items will be shipped UPS. Please note that there are additional charges for items which are large in size, and light in weight, extremely long (such as a molding), if shipped to a residential address, if shipped to an address considered to be a rural area,  or valued over a $100.00. Some extremely small items will be shipped by the United Postal Service to save on shipping costs.

  9. International Shipment of Orders: All international packages will be shipped by United Postal Service "ground" (this is 6-12 weeks) unless requested by customer.  Airmail can be used (7-14 days).   Insurance will automatically be added to shipping costs, unless  customer requests no insurance be applied.  Please have patience as we have found MOST shipments to take 6-12 weeks.  We will notify you when we ship, if we have your email address, and we highly encourage insurance, and airmail.  If Insurance is not purchased, all we guarantee is that the item shipped.

  10. Do you charge for packaging materials?  In most cases we do not charge for boxes, packing materials, or tape.  However in some cases we must.  If a large amount of bubble wrap is used, such as packing sheet metal, we will place a surcharge for our cost of the actual material used.  In the case of long moldings we ship them in PVC tubing, which we buy specifically for this purpose, we must charge for this.  In some case's such as wheel opening moldings, we have been forced to purchase boxes which will fit this purpose, the cost of the box will be added to the shipping costs.

  11. Will you accept COD orders?  Sorry, but due to customers who have order parts by COD, and not accepting them, we no longer accept COD as a method of payment.

  12. What do I do if my shipment is damaged? If the shipment was shipped UPS, you must notify Automobile Archives, and we must file the claim.

  13. Why do two parts, with the same part number fit the same application? Many times GM made part "number changes". The part may have been revised to eliminate a problem, to enable the part to be used on more applications, or GM just felt like it!

  14. Are all of the parts available for my vehicle on your list? No, finding what a part fits is a VERY extensive job. If your part fits another make and or model, that part may be listed for that vehicle instead of yours. The best way to find out if we have your desired part is to use GM's part number, in our "part number search" page. We do have many parts books available for purchase to make this job possible.

  15. How often do your parts list change? Our parts lists are being updated constantly through the sales of parts and additional parts are added as we inventory them. We suggest that you update your list every 3 to 6 months.

  16. Parts Price and Availability.  Part price and availability is subject to change.
